In electrical engineering of power systems, digital and microprocessor based controllers and protective relays are used for the detection of electrical faults in the system. The software based protection relays algorithms analyses power systems voltages and frequencies in order to disconnect the generator from the mains in case of faults or inconsistencies that can occur either on the generator or in the power system.
